Enjoy History by Touring Mount Vernon by Bike, Boat, or Bus
You can take advantage of spring weather and enjoy history in a new way by touring Mount Vernon by Bike, Boat, or Bus! At Mount Vernon by Bike, Boat, or Bus, you can tour George Washington’s Mount Vernon from Alexandria. Add to the historical adventure by cruising down the Potomac by riverboat, pedaling a bike along the scenic Mount Vernon Trail, or hopping on a luxury shuttle down the National Park Service’s George Washington Memorial Parkway. Mix and match your modes of transportation on the way to the site and back for extra memories!
The riverboat option is open daily from April to October. The boat departs the Alexandria Marina at 10 a.m. and departs the Mount Vernon Dock at 4 p.m. The site’s bicycle option is available daily from April to October and is a self-guided, eight-mile-long tour each way. This option requires a 24-hour-advance reservation. Lastly, the bus option is available Saturdays and Sundays between Memorial Day and Labor Day, departing Alexandria at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and departing Mount Vernon at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. All tour tickets include tickets to the estate.
